Inmate class of 2018 set the bar high with 77.3% matric pass rate

ssssAltogether 185 inmate learners sat for the 2018 grade 12 examinations. Of these, 67 (36.22%) qualified for admission to Bachelor degree studies, 46 (24.85%) learners are eligible to obtain a national diploma and 30 (16,22%) candidates are eligible to enrol for higher certificate courses.  The learners achieved a total of 56 distinctions in various subjects, with Usethubeni Youth Centre recording a laudable 28 distinctions.

The top performing inmate learner is Mpofana Nhlakanipho with 80.43 % from Usethubeni. Second is Alexandra Jaime with 79.43% from Baviaanspoort Emthonjeni Youth Centre and third place was Patson Dziva from Usethubeni Youth Centre in the Durban Management Area who attained 77.29%.

Against the odds, 52 year-old Abdulla Elijah Simelane from Vuselela Learning Centre in Barberton Management Area qualified to enrol for a Bachelor degree and he is the oldest learner yet to pass matric in DCS.
