Emthonjeni Juvenile Centre Aims for a Perfect Decade of 100% Matric Passes

The Emthonjeni Juvenile Centre, located within the Baviaanspoort Management Area in Gauteng, is poised to celebrate a remarkable academic milestone. With the official 2025 matric results announcement approaching on 19 January, the facility stands on the cusp of achieving a 100% pass rate for ten consecutive years.

Specialising in rehabilitation through education, vocational training, and counselling, the centre equips its youth with essential skills for successful reintegration into society.

Principal Kgaume Modiba affirmed the school’s confident expectations. “We are accustomed to a 100% pass rate, an accomplishment earned through the dedication of our learners and educators. The Class of 2025 represents a special decade of excellence, and we believe they will uphold this legacy,” she stated.

The school’s goal extends beyond mere passes; it ensures learners qualify for university admission. The 2024 cohort achieved a 100% Bachelor pass rate, with the top learner admitted to the University of the Witwatersrand. Following structured career guidance, current learners have already applied for courses at various higher education institutions.

English Educator Onkgopotse Matjila expressed confidence in the Class of 2025, noting that their year-long perseverance is set to yield rewarding results.

Class representative Tshepo Magagane, who is serving a 10-year sentence, described his matric year as a transformative journey. “Upon incarceration, completing matric became my primary goal. While some paint Grade 12 as intimidating, fear should never define a learner’s path,” he remarked.

Magagane aims for outstanding results, targeting level 7 across all subjects. “I anticipate seven distinctions. My long-term goal is a career in Information Technology (IT), but I have chosen Logistics as a practical alternative,” he concluded.
