The National Commissioner of the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), Mr Makgothi Thobakgale, addressed the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) on 21 August 2026 at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.
The address formed part of the Department’s ongoing engagement with organised labour and provided an opportunity to reflect on matters affecting employees and the broader correctional environment. The National Commissioner reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to maintaining constructive labour relations and ensuring that employee concerns are addressed through established consultation processes.
Mr Thobakgale emphasised the importance of continued cooperation between DCS and organised labour in advancing the Department’s mandate and promoting a stable, professional and productive workplace. He noted that sustained dialogue remains essential in addressing challenges facing the correctional system and in strengthening service delivery.
The engagement highlighted the value of partnership between management and labour in supporting the wellbeing of employees and contributing to the effective functioning of the Department.
