The event marked a key milestone in the Department\u2019s ongoing commitment to leadership excellence and the advancement of employment equity targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The newly appointed senior managers include the following seven Area Commissioners:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Baviaanspoort: Ms MM Kruger<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Krugersdorp: Mr ME Chapi<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Empangeni: Mr EE Chonco<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kokstad: Ms ZI Mbhele<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Witbank: Mr PRM Gwambe<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>St Albans: Ms S Moodley<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mthatha: Ms PN Rini<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional appointments include Mr RK Somaru as Regional Head: Corporate Services for the Free State and Northern Cape, and Ms T Gumede as Deputy Commissioner: Employee Relations at Head Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With five of the nine appointees being female, the Department has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to gender equity and the representation of women at the Senior Management Service (SMS) level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his keynote address, National Commissioner Thobakgale underscored the ceremony\u2019s importance, saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe welcome new appointees into the Senior Management Service in a manner befitting both legal and organisational standards. It is a point of pride that the Public Service can attract ready, tried, and tested leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He emphasised that the SMS tier carries distinct responsibilities, governed by its own handbook and dispensation. The appointments, he added, reflect a deliberate two-pronged strategy to build leadership capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe prioritise qualified internal candidates where possible, without breaking any laws or prescripts,\u201d he said, crediting this approach to effective succession planning and the Department\u2019s ability to nurture leadership talent from within its own ranks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>National Commissioner Thobakgale outlined the unique challenges and opportunities facing each new leader. He advised the new Area Commissioner for Baviaanspoort to focus on navigating complex staff and union relations, while Empangeni\u2019s leadership will need to stabilise its environment following a recent high-profile incident. He described Kokstad as a \u201cnational management area\u201d that operates under heightened scrutiny from human rights institutions, requiring meticulous oversight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turning to St Albans, the National Commissioner highlighted its strategic role as a key determinant of the Eastern Cape\u2019s overall security landscape.
