He cheered on DCS Athletics runners while also helping with hydration, supplements, and nutritional support as they progressed through the ultramarathon.

Out of the 207 DCS athletes, 176 official runners successfully completed the gruelling 85km Up Run. The National Commissioner commended their determination in conquering one of the world’s most challenging endurance events.

“It was encouraging to see our athletes finish what they started, especially given the demanding nature of this ultramarathon. For those who did not reach the finish line, there is always another opportunity to try again,” said National Commissioner Thobakgale.

He also applauded novice runners who successfully completed the course on their first attempt and congratulated seasoned athletes for achieving top accolades at the event. He noted with pride the growth of the club, including the introduction of new members and an increased number of female runners who completed the course. He further recognised experienced athletes who earned their Green Numbers, as well as those who added to their medal collections, improved their personal best times, and continued to excel in the Comrades Marathon.

Joel Kutu from Kgoši Mampuru II made a strong comeback after finishing outside the top 10 in the 2025 race. He emerged as the DCS male champion for the 2026 race.

“I came back better prepared and in peak condition. I used competitive mainstream marathons as part of my training and focused on speed work to improve my time,” he said.

Ziphindile Dlamini could not hide her excitement.

“This year’s edition was very special for me, as I completed my tenth Comrades Marathon to earn a Green Number, with a personal best time of 08:10:01. I am also proud to finish as the first DCS female runner,” she stated.

Top 10 DCS Male Runners:

1.
