She underscored the significance of recognising the plight of incarcerated women during Women&#8217;s Month and expressed heartfelt gratitude to stakeholders for highlighting the opportunities that await female offenders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;These partnerships remind offenders of the pathways to a brighter future,&#8221; Chonco said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Jane Seboletswe Mananiso, Chairperson of the Select Committee on Security and Justice, delivered the keynote address, encouraging women offenders to view incarceration as an opportunity for personal growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I encourage you to view incarceration as a chance for personal development and transformation,&#8221; Ms Mananiso said. &#8220;This experience can provide you with valuable skills and insights, ultimately helping you reintegrate into society and face life&#8217;s challenges with greater resilience and effectiveness.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery alignleft has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-3 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" data-id=\"11311\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2-7-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11311\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2-7-1024x682.jpg 1024w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2-7-300x200.jpg 300w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2-7-768x512.jpg 768w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2-7-400x267.jpg 400w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2-7.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>She remarked on the pressing need to address underlying issues contributing to offending behaviour. Reports from social workers highlighted that mental health challenges often stem from factors such as lack of visitation, family discrimination and self-condemnation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event drew strong support from various stakeholders involved in offender rehabilitation and reintegration, including the Ethekwini Municipal Academy; Department of Social Development, which pledged to participate in offenders&#8217; exit plans; Department of Health; Legal Resource Centre attorneys; and several NGOs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thenjilabantu NGO, a disability empowerment organisation, brought joy to offenders by donating gifts, including sanitary towels, baby clothes, toothpaste and other toiletries as part of the Women&#8217;s Month celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a moving moment, Ms Hlengiwe Sibisi, serving a life sentence for murder, extended heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to the success of the event.
